<H2>Test details:</H2>

The Hyundai Genesis was introduced in the 2009 model year.

Two tests of the Genesis were conducted. In the first test, the dummy\'s head hit the steering wheel through the airbag, producing a high head acceleration. Also, forces on the dummy\'s right lower leg, knee, and foot indicated that injuries would be likely to the leg and possible to the knee and foot. In response, Hyundai modified the airbag and added padding behind the knee bolster in the area of the push-button ignition switch. In the second test, the right leg/foot injury rating improved to Good. Most injury data from the head were not obtained, but after the Institute reviewed comparable test data from Hyundai, the head/neck injury risk was rated Good in the second test.

The airbag and knee bolster modifications apply to all 2009 and later models manufactured after November 2008 (note: information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on or near the driver door). The cars manufactured before and after being modified are rated separately, except that the structural ratings for both vehicles are based on both Institute tests.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy\'s head hit the roof rail.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. (Note: during the test, most injury data from the head were not obtained, but after the Institute reviewed comparable head and neck test data from Hyundai, the head/neck injury risk was rated good.)

<H2>Test details:</H2>

The Hyundai Genesis was introduced in the 2009 model year. Two tests of the Genesis were conducted. In the first test, the side curtain and side torso airbags deployed late, contributing to high forces recorded on the driver dummy\'s torso. These measures indicated that rib fractures and/or internal organ injuries would be likely.

As a result, Hyundai modified the side airbag programming on all 2009 and later Genesis models manufactured after November 20, 2008. A second test was conducted to assess the effect of the fix. In the second test, the airbags deployed normally, and the torso injury measures were much improved. Hyundai has implemented a service campaign to reprogram the side airbags on all 2009 models produced before the the change was implemented on the production line.

The evaluation of the Genesis is based on the second test, except for the structural rating, which is based both tests.

<H3>Injury measures:</H3>

Driver — In the second test, measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures would be possible in a crash of this severity. The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low.

Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.

<H3>Head protection:</H3>

Driver — In the second test, the dummy’s head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof and a side airbag that deployed from the seat.

Rear passenger — The dummy’s head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof and a side airbag that deployed from the seat.
